Biography

“There is nothing I like to do more than painting”. All through my life, I have been able to do many creative things. However, painting is my priority, is what I enjoy the most. As far as I can remember I always have been drawing and painting, since my childhood.

I had always been a lineal artist until through my illustrations, I started to discover shapes in my work and my paintings. As an Illustrator, I had worked with a great variety of media. Now as a Fine Artist, I had decided to paint in watercolor and oil.

Even though, both media are so different to render. I enjoy painting in watercolor because the transparency of this media. I can be as subtle as I want to be depending on the sensitivity of the subject matter that I am painting. Oils are as luscious and bright as the message I want to convey in my painting. I like them because I can be bold, realistic and emotional all at the same time.

I prefer to paint flower arrangements since I can concentrate in painting all abstract shapes that a bouquet of flowers can have, turning them into a realistic painting. In the summer months, I especially enjoy painting tropical fruits and vegetables arrangements. It reminds me of my native country, Cuba and I get a nostalgic mood into my work. I have always enjoyed drawing and painting people since I was a child and now I have been painting portraits.

They are my favorite subject, traditional portraits. I really enjoy getting not only the likeness of the model, but also the psychological implications that his personality might reflect. On each brushstroke, I try to sculpt the different planes of the face or figure until I get a three dimensional person on my canvas.

To be able to get this three-dimensional quality on my paintings, I paint the light that surrounds my subject. In order to get this effect; I paint with the full prism of colors, creating the atmosphere and realism on the painting. I do not paint the subject, I paint the light that hits the subject and color varies according to the density of the light.

On spring and summer I always go outdoors and paint landscapes on location. I love the feeling I get when I am in the contact with Nature. It gives me the inspiration to create my paintings. Also, it is great to watch the rapid changes in light and atmospheric conditions in the landscapes and try to catch them in my paintings. What is in my agenda for the future? I will keep painting constantly. Painting for me is such a gratifying feeling, that I would like to keep doing it forever.
